Nick Kyrgios is set to compete at the Australian Open for the first time in three years later this month.
The Australian superstar had been out of ATP Tour action for 18 months, having last competed against Yibing Wu in defeat at the Stuttgart Open.
He made his return this week in a blockbuster partnership at the Brisbane International, as Kyrgios and Djokovic played doubles together.
The pair won their opening match before losing to the number-one seeds Nikola Mektic and Michael Venus in the second round.
Kyrgios then lost to Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard in the Brisbane singles tournament, but impressed fans with his level, having spent so much time out of the game.
Following his exit in Brisbane, Kyrgios will now prepare for the Australian Open, where one of his former double’s partners has now predicted how he thinks the Aussie will get on.
Speaking on the Nothing Major podcast, Jack Sock revealed whether he thinks Kyrgios can reach the last four of the Australian Open.
“I mean you would say there is a heavy chance of a no there,” he said.
“2025 in general and seeing where he is at, nobody really knows how his wrist feels or body feels.
“I think with the mix of guys in tennis right now that’s going to be difficult to do.
“If I was a betting man I would say no but he has done some crazy things in his career on the court but I don’t think that will be one of them.”
Sock and Kyrgios may play doubles together at the 2025 Miami Open, after the former asked tournament director James Blake for a wildcard recently.
Kyrgios and Sock have played together on several occasions, winning two doubles titles, at the 2018 Lyon Open, and the 2022 Washington Open.
Sock retired from tennis in 2023 having reached a career-high of eighth in the world, winning three Grand Slam doubles titles.
Sock doesn’t seem to think that Kyrgios will make the last four of this year’s Australian Open, but has he ever come close?
In his nine main draw appearances in Melbourne, Kyrgios has made it out of the fourth round just once, back in 2015.

Kyrgios lost to Andy Murray in the last eight of the Australian Open ten years ago, as he came closest to the semi-finals.
In the Aussie’s defense, he has had some tough draws over the years, with six of his nine Australian Open losses coming against players who have either won or reached the final of a Major tournament.
That is in part down to Kyrgios’ ranking, however, something that the 29-year-old has said he doesn’t place too much emphasis on.
Kyrgios will be hoping to prove Sock, and the rest of the tennis world wrong as he looks for a strong performance at the Australian Open which begins on January 12.
