Revered racing identity, owner and breeder, Colin McKenna, has been farewelled with a horseback procession led by Jame Kah and Michelle Payne in his iconic green and blue colours on Friday.
A thousands-strong crowd of McKenna’s family, friends, business colleagues and members of the racing industry packed into his family’s Union Station property to say their goodbyes.
McKenna died aged 74 last month after a very short battle with illness.

He was diagnosed with a brain tumour just two weeks before his sad passing.
Kah and Payne, along with trainer Ciaron Maher, were very close with McKenna.
“A nice touch at Colin McKenna’s funeral with Jamie Kah and Michelle Payne on horseback,” Racing.com said.
Kah fought back tears after the first of her two wins at Flemington for Derby Day last Saturday, riding the McKenna-owned Another Wil in The Damien Oliver.
McKenna’s son and right-hand man at The Midfield Group, Dean McKenna, led the eulogies on Friday, while Maher also made a speech.
The funeral was packed with racing identities, including Gai Waterhouse, Danny O’Brien, David Eustace and Craig Williams.
Tim Auld, who was a close mate of McKenna’s, spoke to Racing.com about his relationship with the popular racehorse owner and breeder.
McKenna’s close friend Tim Auld, a journalist at the Warrnambool Standard, also provided a tribute and spoke to Racing.com about his relationship with McKenna.
“It’s been a pretty tough few weeks for a lot of people, particularly his close friends and family,” Auld said.
“Colin helped so many people and it’s only been since his passing that a lot of people have realised because he was low profile, he didn’t seek anything.
“If you were in the pub on a Saturday afternoon — we’d go watch the races and have a beer at his pub the Union Station Hotel in Woolsthorpe — people wouldn’t have known that he had money.
“He got a lot out of racing.”
