Jannik Sinner breaks records in ATP Finals triumph | Sporting News Australia

World no.1 Jannik Sinner has capped a remarkable breakout season by winning the ATP Finals on home soil in Turin.

The Italian won his eighth title of the year with a straight sets 6-4 6-4 win over Taylor Fritz in the season-ending event.

Sinner, who won his first majors at the Australian Open and US Open in 2024, is the first player to not drop a set at the ATP Finals since 1976.

The 23-year-old also joins Novak Djokovic and Roger Federer as the only men to clinch the ATP Finals trophy alongside the Australian and US Opens.

Sinner’s 70th win of the season came against Fritz, in what as a rematch of the US Open final, which the Italy star also won in straight sets.

He only lost six matches in 2024, three to Carlos Alcaraz, and once each to Stefanos Tsitsipas, Daniil Medvedev and Andrey Rublev.

Sinner is the first Italian to champion at the ATP Finals and finish the calendar year as world no.1.
