Just days left to apply for jobs in Antarctica – Australian Antarctic Program (News 2025)

The Australian Antarctic Program is recruiting hundreds of tradespeople across 37 roles, including mobile crane operators, carpenters, station supply officers and field leaders, for the 2025/26 season. Successful expeditioners will live in tight knit communities, helping run Australia’s three scientific research stations in Antarctica – Davis, Mawson and Casey and one on sub-Antarctic Macquarie Island.

The Australian Antarctic Division’s Director of Expeditioner Services Gina Woodward says there is an extensive recruitment process to find the right candidates.

“We’re after people who are both technically at the top of their field, but also are well suited to small community and remote living,” Ms Woodward said.

“The work is hard, and it’s a massive sacrifice being so far from family and friends, but the rewards are a lifetime of stories, friendships and memories.”

Bridget Muldoon, from southern Queensland, is a station supply officer at Mawson.

“If you’re looking for an adventure like no other, this is it!” she said.

“There has been so much value in this experience. Some days it feels like you’re living in a wildlife documentary. Watching emperor penguins and their chicks, and looking around to see icebergs as far as you can see, it’s surreal.”
