Katy Perry Plays Australian Football in Super Trendy Barely-There Heels

Katy Perry got in a bit of sport while down in Australia. The “143” artist is in the country to perform at the Australian Football League Grand Final in a set featuring an unnamed Australian performer. But while doing press for the gig, the pop singer tried her hand at Australian football, known to many as rugby, while wearing wearing heels.

Katy Perry is interviewed by Cal Twomey for AFL.com.au during the 2024 Grand Final Entertainment Media Opportunity at Melbourne Cricket Ground on September 26, 2024 in Melbourne, Australia.

For the day of events which included interviews, some on-the-field time as well as a photo opportunity, Perry wore an iridescent crop top featuring tendrils emitting from the shoulders that trailed behind. That was matched with an ankle-length pencil skirt of the same textile that was then wrapped in a sheer fabric was covered in small turquoise flowers.

For shoes, Perry opted for a pair of barely-there sandal stilettos. The style is from Paris Texas. It features one singular strap across the toes made of completely sheer PVC. This makes the shoe not only open-toe but a slip-on style. The base of the shoe is silver leather with an almond shaped toe box. This is all built atop a skinny stiletto heel of just over four inches.

Paris Texas has named the style their Lidia mule and the brand sells it for $595.

While it’s not common, and probably not advisable, Perry took the shoes on the turf in the stadium and tried her hand at the sport. “Has anybody every done this in heels?” she asked one of the players who was prepared to toss her a ball. “Am I allowed to be on this lawn in heels?”

Mules in all heights have been trending heavily for the past two years. Whether open-toe or closed, for men or for women, the slip-on style been a key silhouette for 2024 and the spring 2025 runway shows indicate that the trend is not slowing down. Schiaparelli notably teased its upcoming show with images of various molded toe mules on social media.
