Tennis superstar Nick Kyrgios is making a welcome return to the Australian Open tonight, in his first Grand Slam appearance since the 2022 US Open.
It’s been a long road to recovery for the Aussie player, overcoming injury after injury, but Kyrgios has been given the all-clear to dazzle tennis fans this evening, where he will take on the UK’s Jacob Fearnley at John Cain Arena.
And his partner Costeen Hatzi told Today the 29-year-old is excited to get back out on the court.

“It was a long recovery, but he was really patient and he did really well, he’s been training lots and doing all the right things to get himself to this point,” Hatzi told Today.
“He definitely deserves to be here – it’s a hard thing to go through as an athlete going through injury, especially when he was playing so well in 2022, so he’s been quite patient really and I’m super excited to watch him.”
Hatzi and Kyrgios celebrate three years together this year, so she has seen first-hand all the action and what goes into achieving a win on the court.
“It’s fun, but also stressful and just such an emotional rollercoaster, like, one minute he’s doing well and then something may go wrong, like an injury,” she said.

“But I have hope that he’ll be playing well tonight and the fact that he’s here again after injury after two years, it’s amazing, I’m just really happy for him.”
That up-close access to all the action is why Hatzi has also taken on a role with Stan Sports this year, where she will take her followers behind the scenes both on and off the court at the Australian Open.
