Aussie cricket great Justin Langer has been named head coach of The Hundred team London Spirit.
The 54-year-old replaces Trevor Bayliss in charge of the team which plays in England’s radical cricket league, which is played in 100-ball innings.
“I’m thrilled to be appointed to this role with London Spirit, and I’m excited to experience The Hundred,” Langer said.

“I’m looking forward to being a part of the tournament later this year, and working with such a talented group of players and coaches.”
Langer played 105 Test matches for Australia and formed a formidable opening partnership alongside Matthew Hayden.
He went into coaching and found great success in Western Australia with the state side and the Perth Scorchers in the BBL.
That success landed him the Australian men’s coaching gig when he replaced Darren Lehmann following the ugly 2018 Cape Town ball-tampering scandal.
Langer worked to restore the image of the men’s team and under his tutelage they won the Ashes twice, and a World Cup.
But Langer’s tenure came to a bitter end in 2022 when he essentially fell out of favour with players and was pushed out the door in favour of Andrew McDonald.
The ugly divorce drove a wedge into Australian cricket a for a time, with the likes of Hayden declaring he would never work with Cricket Australia due to the treatment of Langer, and other former players taking aim at captain Pat Cummins.
