Latest weather updates as Australia PM’s XI vs India game delayed due to rain

The Australian Prime Minister’s XI side is scheduled to face India in a second day/night game in Canberra on Saturday, but unfortunately rain has halted the start of play.

The toss was set to take place at 2.10pm AEDT with the first ball at 2.40pm but a steady drizzle meant the pitch stayed under covers, with the game delayed.

It doesn’t look like there will be much reprieve either, with a shower or two and possible storm forecast for the rest of Saturday in Canberra.

Up to two millimetres of rain is expected between 5pm and 8pm, with a 50 per cent chance of rain.

The rain briefly stopped at one point, with the boundary rope put in place and umpires walking out to inspect the pitch before the drizzle returned again to further delay proceedings.

Speaking to Fox Cricket ahead of Saturday’s play, NSW Blues all-rounder Jack Edwards said he was “very proud” to be named captain of the PM’s XI side.

“I’m really looking forward to getting down there and being able to play in the Prime Minister’s XI. It’s always a great honour,” he said.

“I’m sure if we can bowl (India) out cheaply and stop them having any time in the middle, that would be fantastic.”

While the Australian PM’s XI side features plenty of well-known names including Scott Boland, Ollie Davies, Matt Renshaw and teenage sensation Sam Konstas, there are other less familiar players well worth watching.

Foxsports.com.au profiled seven players to watch in the two-day clash earlier this week.
