Today marks arguably the highlight of the spring carnival as Randwick plays host to the $20 million Everest while south of the border, the time-honoured Caulfield Cup will be run and won in Melbourne.

The Everest has taken the Australian racing world by storm since its inception in 2017, but this is the first year it has been granted Group 1 status.

This year’s version of the $20 million sprint (4:15pm AEST) is made up of 12 of the country’s best sprinters hand-picked by 12 different slot holders, is the most wide open in the race’s history.

The Caulfield Cup will be run on a rain-soaked track and it too looks a tough proposition for punters, with the in-form Buckaroo for world class jockey Joao Moreira the $4.20 favourite of the capacity field of 18.
