Daniel Moor is set to miss his ride on Muramasa in the Melbourne Cup after receiving an untimely suspension at Moonee Valley on Saturday.

Moor was charged with careless riding in the first race, where stewards found him at fault aboard Unflinching near the 800-metre mark. Initially handed a 12-meeting ban, the penalty was reduced to 10 meetings after Moor changed his plea from ‘not guilty’ to ‘guilty.’ However, the suspension will keep him sidelined until Wednesday, November 6 — the day after the Melbourne Cup.

Moor had partnered Muramasa, currently listed at $34 with betting sites for the Cup, to a third-last finish in the Group 3 Geelong Cup last week.

Meanwhile, following a chaotic running of the Crystal Mile, only Jordan Childs was cited for careless riding. Although Childs secured victory aboard Plenty Of Ammo, stewards found he allowed his horse to shift in slightly over the final 100m, causing interference to other runners.

Childs is expected to delay the start of his suspension until after Derby Day, where he has several important rides, including Grahame Begg’s promising runner, Maharba.

In other news, star jockey James McDonald was fined $2,000 for his exuberant winning celebration aboard Via Sistina after the Cox Plate.
