McKeon, Williamson headline U19s Australian Squad | Western Australian Cricket Association

Midland-Guildford batter Ines McKeon and promising Wanneroo allrounder Tegan Williamson have both been named in the Australian squad for the Women’s Under-19 Tri-series commencing 19 September in Brisbane.

The Youth Selection Panel has selected 15-player squads for each format (T20 and 50-over) for the Tri series in Brisbane and Gold Coast. Former Australian player Kristen Beams has been named as the head coach of the squad.

The other two teams competing in this multi-format series are New Zealand and Sri Lanka. In this 14-day tri-series, Australia will play four T20s and two One-Day matches.

McKeon and Williamson were both selected off the back of strong form in the recently completed Cricket Australia U19 National Female Championships, with Williamson also impressing in the U16s Championships last summer.

McKeon was her state’s star performer, tallying 298 runs at 37.25 in six innings, to finish as the tournament’s leading run-scorer after opening the batting in every match.

The 16-year-old produced the highlight of the tournament when she blasted 139 off just 131 balls against the highly fancied Victoria Metro, a knock which included 10 fours and an incredible nine sixes.

The Midland-Guildford product became one of WA’s youngest ever debutants in the Women’s National Cricket League last month, making her debut against the ACT Meteors at the WACA Ground.

Williamson showed she was a player of incredible ability, by compiling 195 runs and taking eight wickets to be named in the U16 Team of the Tournament for the second consecutive season.

A highly talented player, Williamson also played every match in the U19s Championships this summer, a considerable achievement for the diminutive allrounder who is playing against girls up to three years older than her.

Sonya Thompson, Cricket Australia Head of National Development, said:

“The multi-format series will offer players a wonderful opportunity to continue to develop their skills and test themselves against international competition

“The T20 tri series will be an ideal preparation for the team ahead of the 2025 ICC Under-19 Women’s T20 World Cup in Malaysia.

“Strengthening our pathway programs is a top priority for Australian Cricket, and we’re dedicated to creating more opportunities for our best young talent.”
