Victoria’s racing scene is set to be impacted for years to come with the retirement of champion stayer Gold Trip.

The eight-year-old won’t race again but will begin a new career at Lovatsville Stud near Seymour.

Gold Trip’s achievements are undeniable. Purchased for a reported $2.3 million, he earned his owners Australian Bloodstock close to $7 million in Australia alone.

His Melbourne Cup victory in 2022, carrying the top weight of 57.5kg, was a historic feat.

He also delivered heart-stopping performances in other major races like the Turnbull Stakes (2021) and the Caulfield Cup (2022).

Trainer Ciaron Maher called him “a legitimate freak,” highlighting his versatility and dominance across distances.

Gold Trip won’t be sold, and his owners plan to stay involved.

Lovatsville Stud is offering breeding rights packages at an attractive price to make him accessible to a wider range of breeders.

Standing his first season this spring for a fee of $8800, Gold Trip’s influence on Victorian racing is far from over.
