Morris’ season delayed further with fresh injury blow

West Australian quick Lance Morris has injured his quad in a fresh injury setback that will delay the start to his season.

It is believed the soft tissue injury happened this week, during WA’s Sheffield Shield draw with Queensland at the WACA Ground.

Morris has been ruled out of WA’s one-day cup clash with the Bulls at the same venue on Sunday and is set to miss the red-ball match with Tasmania starting Sunday week.

The West Australian understands Morris is aiming for a return in a one-day match against the Tigers on October 25. He had been on track to face them in the red-ball match.

The fitness battle comes with selectors expected to unveil a squad for a one-day international series against Pakistan in November early next week.

It is the latest in a string of injury blows for the rapid-fast bowler, who battled side and back issues at the end of last summer and is already on tight restrictions from Cricket Australia staff.

Morris was parked for one of WA’s opening two one-day matches and the shield clash which wrapped up on Friday.

He has been replaced in Adam Voges’ 12-man one-day squad by teenager Mahli Beardman, who was a bolt-from-the-blue pick in Australia’s white-ball squad for the end of its tour of the United Kingdom.
