Nick Kyrgios struggled with injury throughout 2024 but is set to return to action in the new year.
After struggling with knee and wrist injuries over the past two seasons, Kyrgios is set to make his long-awaited return in 2025.
Kyrgios is scheduled to play in the Brisbane International, a competition which many players use to build up fitness ahead of the Australian Open.
The Australian would love to mark his return to the game with a strong performance in Melbourne, a tournament where he is adored by his home fans.
Kyrgios won the doubles competition at the Australian Open, back in 2022, partnering fellow Aussie, Thanasi Kokkinakis.
During his time on the sidelines, Kyrgios has spent time commentating, as well as making several appearances on podcasts and radio shows.
Never afraid of sharing a controversial opinion, the 29-year-old has recently given his thoughts on the current landscape of the ATP Tour.
Speaking on the Jase and Lauren show, Kyrgios revealed his thoughts on the state of tennis heading into 2025.
“I think it’s a very interesting time at the moment in the tennis world,” he said.
“Obviously we see you know [Novak] Djokovic, you know I think we can all say he’s at the tail end of his career, he’s still a phenomenal player.
“[Rafael] Nadal literally today, officially the last time we’re going to see him on the court.
“Federer gone.”
Recognizing the end of a generation, Kyrgios is fearful that the younger players on tour won’t bring the same excitement as their predecessors.
“Look there’s some amazing players still out there,” he said.
“But I think the game is a bit bland at the moment, and you know everyone likes each other, and everyone is friends with each other.
“I hate that to be honest.
“We watch for entertainment, we watch for bad blood, we watch for something maybe happening.
“I’m all for being friends off the court, but I think there is just a bit too much respect inside the lines.”
Kyrgios’ talent on the tennis court is undeniable, a reason why many fans have touted him as a potential Grand Slam winner throughout his career.
For various reasons that hasn’t yet materialized, but his inactivity over the past few years, will be a real worry for any fans of the polarizing Australian.
World number one Jannik Sinner played 75 ATP main draw matches in 2024, a number which the 29-year-old has never even gotten close to.

During his decade-long career, the Australian has played over 50 matches just twice, and now hasn’t done so for seven years.
In fact, following his renaissance season in 2022, where the 29-year-old reached the Wimbledon final, Kyrgios has played just one match, losing in the first round of the Stuttgart Open.
Seemingly recovered from injury now, Kyrgios will be hoping to finally play a full schedule on the ATP Tour, as he looks to reach his very evident potential.
Kyrgios will return to action at the Brisbane Open in his native Australia, which begins on December 29.
