Nick Kyrgios says what chance he has of being in the main draw at the 2025 Australian Open

Nick Kyrgios is seemingly nearing a return to competitive tennis after a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

Kyrgios plans to play at the end of the year, having last taken to the court competitively at the 2023 Stuttgart Open.

The Australian lost in the first round to Wu Yibing in Germany last summer, with Kyrgios having been suffering from wrist and knee issues for some time.

But Kyrgios is confident of playing at the 2025 Australian Open, which as always is set for Melbourne at the start of the year.

He has only ever made it to the quarter-finals of his home Grand Slam, and suffered a second round exit in his most recent appearance in 2022.

Responding to the question, the Australian said: “Protected ranking of 21 can play whatever I want.”

What is Nick Kyrgios’ record at Grand Slams ahead of 2025 Australian Open?

The majority of tennis fans are likely to welcome back the Australian with open arms, with his antics certainly missed by many.

That should certainly be the case in Melbourne, where the injury-hit Kyrgios will perhaps be eyeing one final lengthy run at the event.

It remains to be seen how long he will continue playing upon his return, with injuries having clearly had a major impact on his fitness levels lately.

He has been limited to commentary duties during his fitness struggles, with Kyrgios certainly not pleasing everyone with his work.

The Australian is more than capable of impressing on the biggest stage of them all, having reached the quarter-finals of the US Open in his most recent Grand Slam appearance.

But the 2022 Wimbledon final remains his major tournament high point, where he lost 6-4, 3-6, 4-6, 6-7 (3-7) to legendary figure Novak Djokovic.
