Tennis fans all over the world are eagerly anticipating the return of Nick Kyrgios to professional tennis.
The Australian performer hasn’t played in a Grand Slam since the US Open in 2022 when he managed to reach the quarter-final.
That particular run came just months after he’d reached a maiden Grand Slam final at Wimbledon where he lost out to Novak Djokovic.
With his return to competitive tennis just weeks away, Kyrgios is grabbing the headlines again.
Ahead of the Brisbane International, he’s been quizzed on potentially facing Jannik Sinner and it would appear he’d like to play him at the Australian Open.
The Italian player was in the news earlier this year for breaching doping regulations and Kyrgios has been dead against that.
Now, the Aussie has caused quite a stir among tennis fans with his latest comments.
Speaking on the Nothing Major Podcast, Kyrgios was quizzed on what he’d do if he came up against Sinner in the 2025 Australian Open.
He said: “I would just get every single person in the crowd to get on him, I would just turn it into an absolute riot.
“All respect would go out of the window and I would just do anything to win.”
Those comments have been with animosity from tennis fans with many believing that Kyrgios is bringing the game into disrepute.
The comments made about causing a riot haven’t gone down well at all.
Another disgruntled fan said: “Kyrgios is basically trying to incite a riot against another player. He should be reprimanded if not banned. It’s dangerous and reckless behaviour and unsportsmanlike.”
Another post about Kyrgios said: “Absolutely. There are rules about bringing the game into disrepute and Kyrgios needs to be canned.”
It was hard to find any positive comments about Kyrgios and finally, another furious fan said: “Do something ATP Tour. @AustralianOpen this isn’t what we need to see. Suspend him.”
The two players have only met once with Sinner coming out on top during the ATP Masters 1000 event in Miami back in 2022.
The pair were due to meet at Indian Wells that year but Sinner was forced to withdraw through injury with Kyrgios progressing to the quarter-final.
Based on his latest comments all eyes will now be on the Australian Open draw and whether or not the pair can actually meet each other at any point.
It would be truly fantastic if the possibility became a reality and Kyrgios being back on the tour looks like being as eventful as first anticipated following the announcement.
