Marsh will lead AUS in T20 WC 2024 [X.com]
In a significant development, Cricket Australia has announced a robust 15-member men’s squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup in the Caribbean and United States.
As expected, the 2021 edition champions have left out veteran batter Steve Smith, who has been significantly inconsistent in the shortest format of late.
In addition, they have also excluded Jake Fraser-McGurk despite his incredible batting performance in the ongoing Indian Premier League season.
Experienced all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has been named the captain of Australia for the marquee event.
The Aussie top-order looks rock-solid, having the destructive opening duo of David Warner and Travis Head alongside skipper Marsh, who will likely bat at number three.
Veteran players Glenn Maxwell and Marcus Stoinis have been picked as the batting all-rounders alongside Cameron Green.
Tim David and Josh Inglis will be Australia’s finishers in the competition, with Matthew Wade getting an entry into the squad as the reserve keeper-batter.
The familiar quartet of Mitchell Starc, Josh Hazlewood, Pat Cummins and Nathan Ellis will spearhead the Australian pace battery, with Adam Zampa leading the spin bowling department along with Ashton Agar.
