They cheered on their Olympic teammates Jason Day and Min Woo Lee from the gallery over the weekend at the men’s event, but now it’s time for Hannah Green and Minjee Lee to tee up themselves in search of Australia’s first ever medal in the golf event.
On Wednesday night, the women’s Olympic golf tournament gets underway. Green tees off at 5.44pm AEST and two-time major winner Lee gets started exactly two hours later at 7.44pm, at Le Golf National in Versailles. It’s only three days since the course hosted the men’s event. The coverage is on Channel 9.
Green and Lee team up again having represented Australia in Tokyo in 2021, where Green came close to a medal. She finished tied-fourth, one shot out of a playoff for bronze, while Lee has teed up in every Olympics since golf returned to the games at the Rio de Janeiro edition in 2016.
Green, the women’s world No. 6, and Lee, No. 11, are a really good chance at securing another medal for Australia’s overall tally. No Australian has ever medalled in golf at the Olympics and the two will face strong competition at Le Golf National including world No. 1 and reigning Olympic champion Nelly Korda.
The tournament begins at 5pm Wednesday AEST.
