Emerging Aussie golf star Jeffrey Guan has been released from hospital after he was struck by a ball during a pro-am event, but there remains “no clear timeline for his recovery”.
The 20-year-old was left fighting to save his eyesight after being hit in the face at a tournament south of Sydney last week. He was airlifted to hospital for surgery with his coach telling reporters there were “fears he may lose some vision”.
Golf Australia, Golf NSW, and the PGA of Australia released a join statement about Guan’s condition on Wednesday, confirming his recovery is expected to be “a long and challenging journey”.

“(We) remain mindful of the community’s ongoing concern for Jeffrey Guan following his recent on-course accident,” the statement read.
“Jeffrey has now been discharged from the Sydney Eye Hospital. While he is no longer under constant medical supervision, there is still no clear timeline for his recovery, and the long-term prognosis remains uncertain at this stage.
“Jeff’s recovery is only just beginning, and it is expected to be a long and challenging journey.
“The three organisations, Golf Australia, Golf NSW, and the PGA of Australia continue to maintain close daily contact with Jeffrey’s family, offering support as they navigate the challenges ahead.
“We are dedicated to ensuring that Jeffrey receives the best possible medical care and that his family is assisted in every way during this difficult time.
“Once again, we extend our heartfelt thanks to everyone for their ongoing messages of kindness and support and will continue to provide updates on Jeffrey’s progress as appropriate.”
Guan recently signed with the same management company that boasts major winners Jon Rahm and Phil Mickelson and received a sponsor invite to the PGA Tour Procore Championship in California this month.
He hit a 69 and 75 to narrowly miss the cut.
“It’s truly awful,” his coach Paul Davis told the Australian Golf Digest.
“It’s just the worst possible news after such an amazing week in California.”
