Due to the voluntary administration of Mosaic Brands Ltd., a well-known retailer in Australia, four Indian garment exporters and one leather product manufacturer are apprehensive about their substantial payment and future business prospects.

This Australian company, which has 700 outlets, three major brands and a turnover of about US$340 million, specialises in womenswear and has collaborated with five Indian enterprises during the past one to four years.

“It will definitely impact us as we used to have reasonable business with Mosaic,” an exporter told Apparel Resources, under the stipulation that they not reveal their identity. In the past, their typical order size ranged from 1500 pieces to 10,000 pieces. The exporter did not disclose information on the dues to the retailer.

In the past, the business collaborated with five or six Indian suppliers located throughout the nation. Another supplier claimed that his US $ 0.27 million payment was still pending with Mosaic and that it was too soon to predict when or if it would be issued.

“Their payments used to be regular and we do not have an idea in what direction this was heading,” he shared.

Another exporter has not only a  stuck payment worth around US $ 0.4 million but also has ready stock which is itself worth around US $ .08 million.

“I am trying to meet them in person so at least I can have some clarity since there is a high amount on stake,” he said.

Millers, Rockmans and Katies are among the brands owned by Mosaic, which was formerly known as Noni B Limited. In addition to selling the remaining stock until Black Friday, it announced intentions to phase down a number of brands, including Rockmans and Autograph.

Bangladeshi clothing exporters are suffering because the Australian retail behemoth has not paid debts totalling about US $ 20 million, according to a research by Apparel Resources.

Mosaic will continue to trade regularly in the run-up to Christmas, according to reports from the Australian media. It will be managed by KPMG and FTI Consulting.
