People First Stadium, the home of the Gold Coast SUNS, will host the Bond University QAFLW Grand Final on Sunday, August 25th to herald the start of the AFL Queensland finals series.
People First Stadium is a premier venue for AFL action in Queensland, from hosting the QAFL Grand Final in 2019 and in recent times the Southeast Queensland Junior Grand Finals in 2022.
This provides participants at grassroots AFL level with a chance to experience a Grand Final in one of the most elite stadiums around Australia.
It shows the vital impact AFL is creating on sports development in Queensland, which reflects the increased engagement and support from fans and the local community.
Queensland Competitions Manager, Mitchell Simpson, said grand final days were always a special way to cap off the respective seasons.
“Our primary focus is to ensure our grand final days are an experience to remember for all participants, coaches, officials and fans of our game alike,” he said.
“People First Stadium is no stranger to community football grand finals, hosting the QAFL Grand Final in 2019 and more recently the McDonalds Southeast Queensland Junior Grand Finals in 2022 so I am excited about it staging the Bond University QAFLW Grand Final in a few weeks, showcasing some of the best Queensland female football talent.”
“Across the state, I am looking forward to seeing the exceptional talent we have in the junior, youth and senior competitions on offer over four huge weekends.”
Head of AFL Queensland, Trisha Squires, said it was exciting to have the finals series just around the corner.
“Our sport continues to experience unprecedented growth in Queensland and strong and successful competitions across the state underpin this growth,” she said.
“It’s always an exciting time to announce grand final locations and I wish every team vying for premiership glory the best for the rest of their seasons.
“Australian rules football in Queensland is thriving due to our hardworking volunteers, coaches, officials and umpires. And we couldn’t host over 100 grand finals without their support, so I thank everyone involved.”
All AFL Queensland Finals will be live-streamed via the Official AFL Queensland YouTube Channel.
The location for the QAFL Grand Final, scheduled for Saturday, September 14th, will be announced later this week.
