Australian cricket legend Ricky Ponting has taken on a new role as head coach of IPL side Punjab Kings.
It comes after Ponting departed IPL rivals Delhi Capitals, where he was coach for seven seasons, to sign a four-year deal with the Kings.
He now has a mammoth task ahead, becoming the club’s third coach in just four years.

The Kings have also failed to make the playoffs in 10 years, with their last attempt in 2014 leaving them runners-up.
But it won’t deter Ponting, who took to social media to declare he has one goal in mind for the Kings next season.
“Looking forward to getting started at Punjab Kings. Can’t wait to put a new team together and set about winning the IPL,” he said on X on Wednesday night.
The former Australian batter lauded the “alignment” between he and the club, based off early conversations that filled him with confidence in what he can build.
“I am excited to take up the new challenge. I had great conversations with the owners and the management about the way forward and was truly elated to see the alignment of our visions for the team,” Ponting said.
“We all want to repay the fans who have stayed with the franchise over the years and we promise that they will see a much different Punjab Kings going forward.”
Ponting is no stranger to the IPL on both a coaching and playing front.
He has been part of the league since it began in 2008, when he first played for the Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians.
