Former Sun Sam Day has landed at the Lions, while ex-Saint Ben Paton is now officially a Swan and delisted Docker Max Knobel has joined Gold Coast.

The Dockers had committed to relisting Knobel, but the Suns pounced on the 206cm ruckman with Pick 4 in the Rookie Draft. It left Fremantle to take Claremont ruckman Aiden Riddle three picks later.

Adelaide’s Chris Burgess and Harry Schoenberg, Brisbane’s Darragh Joyce, Collingwood’s Oleg Markov and Ash Johnson, GWS’ Josh Fahey and Jacob Wehr, Hawthorn’s JackGunston, North Melbourne’s Toby Pink, St Kilda’s Brad Crouch and Sydney’s Aaron Francis and Joel Hamling were all redrafted to their teams’ rookie lists.

Elsewhere, Bendigo Pioneers forward Archer Day-Wicks was the first new name taken off the board by Essendon with Pick 6. The Cats plucked two players from the Geelong Falcons — Xavier Ivisic and Joe Pike — plus Oakleigh Chargers midfielder Patrick Retschko.

Central Districts’ Tom Cochrane (taken by Port Adelaide), son of former Port player Stuart, and Greater Western Victoria’s Harry Charleson (Carlton) were other fresh faces to find new homes.

Separate to the drafts, five players joined clubs as category B rookies — Jayden Nguyen (Essendon), Lachlan Gulbin (Gold Coast), Ricky Mentha (Melbourne), Benny Barrett (Port Adelaide) and Malakai Champion (West Coast).

Players can also train with clubs over the summer in hopes of earning a list spot via the pre-season supplemental selection period, with ex-Power midfielder Quinton Narkle expected to join Fremantle and former Lion Jaxon Prior linked to Essendon

Like the national draft, the rookie draft order is determined by reverse ladder positions.
