The submissions to Safe Work Australia (SWA) regarding their proposal to license Straddle Carrier Operators closed Wednesday 31 July.
SWA has informed Marina Industries Association (MIA) that they have received numerous submissions from the industry supporting the MIA’s position. These submissions effectively communicated the issues and challenges associated with the proposed licensing. SWA noted that the industry’s case was well-argued and strong, providing them with a clear understanding of the specific skills and considerations necessary for the safe lifting and positioning of vessels.
The BIA also put in a submission echoing the MIA’s position and co-ordinated a meeting for us with the Australian Chamber of Commerce & Industry (ACCI). ACCI has been briefed on the position, and its representative will remain engaged in meetings as the proposal makes its way through the consideration process.
SWA has emphasised the importance of the high number of supportive submissions as the proposal progresses. MIA appreciate the time and effort put into these submissions. The MIA will maintain communication with SWA and ACCI throughout the process and will be ready to provide any additional information or representation if needed. Please note that MIA do not anticipate a further proposal until December or the new year.
The MIA will keep industry posted of any developments and queries in the meantime should be directed to Chris Stone at
