Scotty Cameron B3 Triple Black Design LTD putters: what you need to know – Australian Golf Digest

What you need to know: Scotty Cameron takes his inspiration from many areas. In the case of his latest creation, the B3 Triple Black Design LTD putters, he was motivated by convertible car culture—where a black paintjob, black interior and black soft top signifies a “triple black” color combination. Cameron then married that idea with four of his most popular designs and modernized them.

The result is a special run of four blade putters: the Newport 2 (available in right-hand and left-hand), Newport 2 Long Neck, Santa Fe and Catalina, each with a “triple black” design format: a black finish, black shaft, and black grip.

Availability/Pricing: The B3 Triple Black putters will be available July 26 at a price of $750 each.

3 Cool Things

1. Not just a pretty faceBy utilizing dual-milled face technology the putters offers a tour-inspired feel by combining the softness of deep-milled putters with the consistency and feedback of mid-milled offerings.

Two customizable heel-toe sole weights helped get weight where it needed to be and the moment of inertia up to reasonable level. The Catalina uses stainless steel weights made in 10-gram, 15-gram and 20-gram increments, while the other models use heavier tungsten in 30-gram, 35-gram and 40-gram denominations matched to the associated putter lengths of 33 inches, 34 inches and 35 inches. The loft on each model is 3.5 degrees and the lie angle is 70 degrees.

2. Pick your putterWith four designs to choose from, consumers have several options. The B3 Triple Black Design LTD Newport 2 is the flagship model of the line. The Newport 2 is modeled after the crisp, mechanical shape of the Super Select Newport 2. The Newport 2 Long Neck has an I-beam style long neck added to the familiar Super Select Newport 2 head shape, promoting a more straight-back-straight-through putting stroke through a near-face balanced setup.

The Santa Fe was inspired by the popular model from early in Cameron’s career and features an I-beam style flare 1.5 neck and a shape based on the softer, rounded features of the Super Select Newport. The Catalina features a shape slightly wider than a standard Newport and more closely related to the Super Select Newport Plus. The updated setup features a shaft-over-spud design and a modern single bend shaft, giving the player a near-face balanced effect.

“With the B3 Triple Black Design LTD putters, we’re giving players new designs based on our established Super Select profiles and formats,” said Austie Rollinson, senior director of putter R&D. “The Newport 2 is always the most popular model, and with the Santa Fe, Newport 2 Long Neck and Catalina models, we’re presenting playable options not available in the current line. Golfers have an opportunity to game a longstanding design concept, refined and made with our modern milling and manufacturing processes.”

3. Black to the coreThe Tour Black finish comes from a durable PVD treatment applied to the 303 stainless steel head, resulting in a dark look that reduces glare. The putter’s topline is manually misted and the face and sole are hand buffed before its application. B3 Triple Black LTD’s chrome shaft carries the same Tour Black finish.

“Our Triple Black putters have always been a popular option on tour with players who not only like a stealthy, cool-looking design, but also want an extra solution for reducing sun glare,” said Cameron.
