In a shocking turn of events in the ongoing T20 World Cup, Australia have been eliminated from the Super 8 round. Afghanistan’s victory over Bangladesh has sealed Australia’s fate as they find themselves on the flight back to home after a disappointing World Cup. Australia outplayed India to clinch the ODI World Cup last year and were the favourites to win the T20 World Cup as well, but things were not meant to be for the Aussies.

With Australia’s T20 World Cup campaign coming to a close, David Warner‘s international career has also ended. Warner is no less than a stalwart in world cricket and his achievements with the Australian cricket team echo the same emotion. Warner, Australia’s top-order champion has done it all across all formats. With Australia, Warner has won the ODI World Cup, the World Test Championship and the T20 World Cup. Not many players in the history of cricket can boast about all the coveted titles.

Three time ODI World Cup winner Ricky Ponting reflected on David Warner’s career and lavished praise on him. Ponting feels that Warner retiring will leave an unimaginable void in the Australian team and it will take them a lot of time to fill the gap.

I put my arm around him and I said just take a moment tonight to sit back by yourself and reflect on what’s been an unbelievable career across all three formats for Australia. We know he retired in the summer from test cricket, but you’ll struggle to find a guy that’s had as big an impact on all three forms in Australian cricket than David Warner has. I’ve been able to play with him, I’ve been able to coach him in the IPL the last couple of years and I really enjoy his company. So he should be very proud of what he’s done‘, Ponting said.

Not only international cricket, but Warner continues to be a stalwart around the world and in franchise cricket too. The opener averages over 40 in Test and ODI cricket and whereas in T20Is, he averages close to 34. As far as the Indian Premier League is concerned, Warner plays for the Delhi Capitals and might continue for them in the next season too.
