A 15th strike has been made in South Australia’s tobacco war – a third in as many nights – and innocent business owners are again paying the price.
The latest incident saw a suspected illegal tobacco store ram raided with a ute before being set alight, forcing nearby shops to close and lose thousands of dollars in trade.
The strike occurred at an Addison Road gift shop in Pennington, just before 5am.
Local businesses said it could take at least a week before they could reopen.
“I’m pretty fully stocked… I’ve got around roughly $10,000-$15,000 worth of stock in there,” store owner Rosa Spano said.
Detectives are investigating the arson attack, which is the 15th linked to the state’s escalating tobacco war in just three months.
