The WPGA Tour of Australasia will amend its Membership Regulations Policy from the start of the 2025 season after a meeting of its Board this week.
Following the recent updates regarding Gender Policy from the LPGA Tour, Epson Tour and Ladies European Tour, as well as other global golf bodies, the WPGA Tour of Australasia Board met to consider its eligibility requirements.
Previously, ‘Transitioned’ female athletes were permitted to play the Tour if they meet additional eligibility requirements, however effective from January 1, 2025 the detail relating to this will change.
Following the lead of the global Tours and decisions guided by medical, scientific, legal expertise, and consultation with their members, the WPGA Tour of Australasia eligibility requirements will now reflect those of the LPGA Tour with membership eligibility for those who are assigned female at birth or have gone through transition prior to puberty.
As has been the case across numerous areas, the WPGA Tour of Australasia has been guided by the global Tours, while making a final decision applicable to its events at the Board level to ensure uniformity in women’s golf while ensuring integrity and competitive fairness of women’s professional golf at the highest level.
It is important to note, the change in eligibility requirements is only applicable to WPGA Tour of Australasia sanctioned events and relate to professional golf tournaments held under the WPGA Tour regulations.
The Board of the WPGA Tour of Australasia wishes to express their collective belief that golf is an inclusive sport that is striving to be even more so, and remains supportive of an inclusive environment and culture where all women are welcome to play our sport.
The Board acknowledges that there have been some great strides made in recent years, and through the WPGA Tour’s ongoing work with the PGA of Australia and Golf Australia, they will continue to push for a world where any woman, regardless of her backstory, can have access to our great game.
Details of the updated eligibility requirements and Membership Regulations Policy will be finalised in the lead up to taking effect from January 1.
