Sam Konstas has continued his meteoric rise, earning selection in the Australia A squad to take on India A before this summer’s Test series.
The teenage sensation scored back-to-back centuries last week for NSW in their first Sheffield Shield game of the season, pushing himself into national team discussions.
Michael Clarke publicly endorsed the 19-year-old after his performance against South Australia and given the race for the opening batting spot alongside Usman Khawaja, it’s not out of the realm of possibility for Konstas to earn a shock debut.

Konstas has been picked in the squad alongside other top-order hopefuls Cameron Bancroft and Marcus Harris, who are also in the mix for a baggy green.
Nathan McSweeney will captain the side as he closes in on higher honours, while the in-form Beau Webster will feature in the two fixtures against India’s touring squad.
The timing of Webster’s inclusion in particular will be one to watch, with the recent injury setback for Cameron Green potentially opening up an all-rounder position.
“We are really excited by this squad, particularly after some of the tremendous performances to start the Sheffield Shield season,” George Bailey said in a statement.
“As always with Australia A selection we have picked a side we hope can present performances which are compelling for the upcoming Test summer, whilst also rewarding players for strong domestic form in roles we see as being important.
“Australia A squads are pleasingly challenging to select which highlights the depth and talent coming through to accompany those more senior players on the edge of international recall.
“It will be a great opportunity for these players to shine against a strong Test nation looking to prepare for what is going to be a captivating summer of Test cricket.”
Australia have also named their ODI squad for an upcoming series against Pakistan, which will be the final 50-over games before next year’s Champions Trophy.
Pat Cummins will lead the side which includes young guns Cooper Connolly and Jake Fraser-McGurk, as well as experienced stars Steve Smith and Glenn Maxwell.
“This is our last ODI series before the Champions Trophy and the balance of the squad was focussed on that as well as continuing to focus on preparation of individuals for the upcoming Test summer,” Bailey said.
“The side had a great result in the UK particularly given illness and injury challenges.
“We view this is an opportunity to expand on that achievement in preparation for next February in Pakistan.”
Mitchell Marsh and Travis Head are both missing for the series due to family reasons.
