Murray Taulagi has opened up about switching his allegiance from Australia to Samoa.
The player represented Australia in two Tests back in 2022 before switching to Samoa.
However, as per the current international rules, players are allowed to represent nations in both tier one and tier two.
After having donned the Australian jersey, Taulagi decided to make the switch and represent Samoa in 2023.
Born to Samoan parents in Australia, the opportunity to represent his family was one that Taulagi couldn’t have missed. last year, he said:
“It was definitely my first preference to play for Samoa,” he told NRL.com last year.
“Both of my parents are Samoan so it’s a massive honour to represent my family and our small nation.”

Taulagi’s decision to defect and play for Samoa certainly rocked Kangaroos coach Mal Meninga, who was highly critical of the move.
“It did create a bit of head noise, especially when Mal came out and said what he said,” Taulagi said on Triple M.
Despite this, Taulagi has nothing against his former coach.
“But you know, I don’t have any bad words with Mal, and it’s all love there and sort of just grateful that I was able to play under him.”
Taulagi will be in action next for Samoa when they face England in an international match on Monday morning (AEST).
