Hard courts have become the main surface to play on in tennis in recent decades, with some of the biggest titles in the sport contested on the surface.
And perhaps none are bigger than the Australian Open, which has been held on the surface since 1988, and the US Open, held on hard courts since 1978.
Here, we look at the seven women with the most hard court major singles titles won on hard.
One of the leading hard-courter of her generation, all four of Osaka’s Slam titles have come on the surface.
The former world No 1 captured her maiden major at the US Open in 2018 and backed that up with the 2019 Australian Open title.
Osaka completed the double again two years later, triumphing at Flushing Meadows in 2020 before a second title Down Under in 2021.
Much like Osaka, all of Clijsters’ major singles titles were won on the same surface.
After four previous Grand Slam final losses, the Belgian triumphed at the US Open in 2005 and then returned as a mother to lift the title again in 2009 and 2010.
Clijsters then added the Australian Open title to her collection in 2011, in what proved to be the final major of her career.
Hingis is a former Wimbledon champion but was at her best on hard courts, particularly in Melbourne.
The Swiss star won three straight Australian Open titles from 1997-1999 and came close to further silverware, with three final defeats from 2000-2002.
Her success was not contained only to Melbourne, with the former world No 1 also lifting the US Open title in 1997.

Women who have spent most weeks at No 1 in WTA Rankings: Steffi Graf No 1, Iga Swiatek moves up another place
Navratilova never won the Australian Open on hard courts, but was a four-time US Open champion on the surface during the prime of her career.
The former No 1 completed the Career Grand Slam with victory at the event in 1983 and successfully defended her title in 1984.
After being beaten in the 1985 final, she bounced back to again seal consecutive triumphs at Flushing Meadows in 1986 and 1987.
Considered one of the greatest competitors in tennis history, Seles won six of her nine major titles on hard courts across her legendary career.
Seles is perhaps best remembered for her success at the Australian Open, where she won three straight titles from 1991-1993, before winning her final Slam at the tournament in 1996.
However, she was also twice a winner in New York, capturing the US Open title in 1991 and 1992.
A true tennis icon, Graf is a legendary champion at both hard court Slams, combining for nine titles across Melbourne and New York.
The German won three straight Australian Open titles from 1988-1990, before winning her fourth and final crown in 1994.
Graf sealed back-to-back US Open titles in 1988 and 1989 and, after winning a third title in 1993, again went back-to-back with triumphs in 1995 and 1996.
Unsurprisingly, it is Williams out in front, with 13 of her 23 Grand Slam singles titles coming on the surface.
Williams’ haul of seven Australian Open titles is an Open Era record, winning the title in 2003, 2005, 2007, 2009 and 2010, and again in 2015 and 2017.
The American was also a six-time champion on home turf at the US Open, winning in 1999, 2002, and 2008, before capturing three straight titles from 2012-14.
