There’s a lot of cool things about working at Golf Digest. Chief among them is the opportunity to forge longstanding relationships within the industry and to engage with our readers.
On Thursday, April 25 at 8 p.m. EST, both of those areas meet as Senior Editor, Equipment Mike Stachura and myself will be hosting the Golf Digest Happy Hour with one of our closest friends in the golf biz, Golf Galaxy director of golf experience and master fitter Chris Marchini. If you don’t know the name, you know the face. Chris is the bald-headed guy with the arms of a bar bouncer in the Golf Galaxy ads promoting their fitting programs.

Chris Marchini, Golf Galaxy’s director of golf experience
Marchini brings a lifetime of fitting experience to the discussion and is eager to not only engage with us, but with you (questions not only welcomed, but strongly encouraged). Nothing is off the table except for “What club should I buy?” Why’s that? Because no fitter worth their launch monitor would ever recommend a club without seeing you swing.
That said, Marchini will dispense a treasure trove of fitting knowledge, do’s and don’ts of fitting and bust some of the myths about equipment that might be the difference between you being in the wrong clubs and the right ones. Also expect to hear about why many golfers are perfectly OK with less than 14 clubs and why swing speed isn’t the best metric for getting in the proper shaft.

“I’m coming around to not even calling it clubfitting,” says Marchini. “It’s club optimization. It’s about squeezing out the very best combination to get golfers to hit the ball better more often. There is a lot of misconception and misinformation about clubfitting, and I’m looking forward to breaking through those in the discussion.”
The Happy Hour is exclusively for Golf Digest+ members. If you’re already a member, you’re good. If not, join by clicking here to receive access to this Happy Hour and all the previously recorded webinars as well. You will be able to join this equipment Happy Hour on Thursday by following a Zoom link that will be posted here.
We look forward to seeing and interacting with you Thursday night. I’ll be the guy with the eyeglasses cradling a Pinehurst rocks glass filled with ice, vodka and an eyedropper’s worth of orange juice. After all, what’s a Happy Hour without, as David Letterman used to say, a lovely beverage.
