Tiger Woods giving Charlie Woods swing advice after his opening tee shot is what the PNC Championship is all about – Australian Golf Digest

If there’s anyone on the planet who’s thought longer or harder about swinging a golf club than Tiger Woods, we haven’t found them. Though the 82-time PGA Tour winner may be the greatest of all time, he remains a student of the game and that perspective has proved to be a blessing for the entire sport. While Woods plays his cards a little closer to his vest when chatting with the media and competitors, he always been open with the next generation of golfers, emptying his well of golf knowledge at every opportunity … including to his son Charlie Woods.

On Friday at the PNC Championship, golf fans got a front row seat to Tiger’s parenting on the golf course when Charlie smoked his opening tee shot off the heel of his driver, hitting what he called a “damn near shank.”

It can’t be easy having the Big Cat analyzing your every swing, but based on this video, Tiger does a great job balancing his role as both supportive father and swing coach while on the course.

“Nice shot, son,” he says, beginning with a compliment. “The lines were good.”

When Charlie pushes back, saying he nearly shanked it, the swing coach part of Tiger takes over.

“It was off the heel, I saw that,” he says. “It’s alright. You got it stuck in the ground going back.”

“Is that why?” Charlie asks.

“Yes, that’s why,” Tiger answers with smile.

Tiger may be the farthest thing from a “normal” dad, but at least there’s one thing we can all relate to in this charming exchange:

Nothing—not the tire pressure in your car, not getting home 20 minutes after curfew and certainly not the fact you just clanged it off the heel—ever got by your old man either.
