Charlie Woods, apparently a chip off the old block, as they say, wrested the spotlight from father Tiger early in the second and final round of the PNC Championship with his first hole in one, a 7 iron on the par-3 fourth hole at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club in Orlando, Fla., on Sunday.

“It was a perfect 7 iron, so I just got to hit it,” Charlie, 16, said in a brief television interview, “just 175, a little down off the left, a little cut 7. It was aweseom. I didn’t think it went in. I don’t believe anybody until I go up there and see it.”

Once it was determined the ball did find the hole, euphoria ensued back on the tee box, with Tiger probably more excited than Charlie, embracing him in a bear hug. High fives from playing partners Bernhard Langer and his son Jason followed.

“You’re buying,” Tiger told Charlie, the 19th custom for those making an ace.

“I’m broke,” Charlie replied.

The ace, incidentally, briefly gave Team Woods a one-stroke lead.

Tiger has made three aces in his PGA Tour career.
