Bernard Tomic has been bundled out of the Australian Open qualifying draw after losing in the first round to Jozef Kovalik.
The Slovakian won the match 6-3, 6-1 in an hour, dominating with 26 winners to Tomic’s seven.
Tomic was reserved after the loss, giving a thumbs up to the crowd and signing autographs for young fans before leaving the court.

Speaking after his win, world No.128 Kovalik was delighted he was able to avoid any dangers presented by Tomic’s talent.
“He has good touch, perfect stroke, so I’m very happy it wasn’t complicated because he can be very tough,” he said on Nine’s coverage.

Tomic, 32, has not been seen at the Australian Open since 2022.
He’s played 11 times in the main draw but never made it past the fourth round.
Last year, Tomic earned $101,170 playing in majority ATP Challenger events.
The majority of those matches were played in the USA along with Canada, Brazil, Colombia, Dominican Republic, Mexico, India and Thailand.
His best result was winning the M25 Chennai.
Tomic still won $35,000 for playing in the opening round of qualifying at the Australian Open.
