The most lucrative jobs in Australia have been revealed, with some specialised roles raking in as much as $850,000 a year. The cost of living is driving many Aussie workers to ask for pay rises, or to consider jumping ship in pursuit of a better salary.

Two in five Aussie employers admitted they were dissatisfied with their current salaries, recruitment agency Hays found. A whopping 77 per cent of workers said they were looking or planning to look for a new job, with 64 per cent citing rising costs as the top reason they were looking to move.

For those seeking out higher salaries, Hays data has revealed the highest-paid jobs in the country based on a survey of more than 15,000 respondents across 26 different industries.

Equity partners in top-tier private practices topped the list, with those in Perth, Brisbane, Melbourne and Sydney reporting average salaries of more than $500,000. Sydney workers were the highest paid, with typical salaries of $850,000.

Salaried partners can similarly earn as much as $400,000 in Australia, while special counsel can typically rake in $280,000 a year.

CEO or managing directors came in second place with those working at commercial companies with turnovers between $50 million and $500 million typically earning up to $700,000 to run the company.

Chief operating officers (COO) and executive general managers can earn up to $600,000 for similarly sized companies, while chief financial officers (CFO) and financial directors can also reach up to $600,000.

Heads of Treasury, within the accountancy and finance sector, can earn as much as $510,000 in Sydney. Workers can expect to need more than 10 years of experience in finance, banking accounting and/or in-house corporate treasury experience to land the gig, Hays noted.

Heads of tax can similarly rake in $400,000, while heads of internal audit can make up to $400,000.
