The low scores are coming fast and furious in the Wyndham Championship, with a second day that included a round of 60—this one by Matt Greyserman after Beau Hossler shot 10 under on Friday in the weather-delayed first round at Sedgefield Country Club.

It doesn’t get lower than writing down a “1,” and there were two of those on Saturday on the same hole, including one that gabbed a young PGA Tour pro a line on the records page that may last a while.

Pepperdine alum Joe Highsmith made an ace from 189 yards on the par-3 12th (along with Lucas Glover recording his sixth career 1), and it was something of a déjà vu moment for the 24-year-old. Actually, double déjà vu. The hole-in-one was the third of the season for Highsmith, and dating back to the tour’s modern record-keeping in 1983, no one has pulled off a trio of aces in a single season.

Highsmith previously made holes-in-one at the year’s Rocket Mortgage Classic (fifth hole, second round at Detroit Golf Club) and The American Express (13th hole, second round at PGA West’s Stadium Course).

The Washington native got this one in just under the wire before the probable end to his own 2024 campaign. With only seven cuts made in 21 starts, Highsmith entered the week at 158th in the FedEx Cup standings and would need to win the Wyndham to have any shot at making the playoffs that begin next week.

Sadly, aces don’t always translate into great finishes. In those previous events with aces, Highsmith had a T-57 in the Rocket Mortgage and T-34 in The AmEx. Maybe it will be better this week. On Saturday, he was five under for his round and the tournament, tied for 26th, with three holes to go in the second round when play was suspended until Sunday morning.
