Emerging Aussie golf star Jeffrey Guan is in danger of “losing some vision” after being struck on the face by an errant ball during a Pro-Am tournament on the New South Wales south coast.
The freak accident occurred on Friday at a Pro-Am in Bateman’s Bay. It was just a week after the peak of Guan’s young career to date, when he made his PGA Tour debut in the Fortinet Championship in California.
The 20-year-old just missed the cut with a score of even par after two rounds.

Guan was airlifted to a Canberra hospital following the scary incident and has undergone surgery on his eye.
“Just before 2pm we responded to reports a man in his 20s had been hit in the head with a golf ball,” a NSW Ambulance spokesperson told the SMH.
“We treated the man for a head injury and he was taken to Moruya District Hospital.”
Sadly, he may have suffered career-threatening injuries as a result according to his coach Paul Davis.
“Obviously there are fears he may lose some vision but we won’t know the full extent until he goes to Sydney for further assessment,” Davis told Australian Golf Digest.
“It’s truly awful … this was actually the first pro-am Jeff has ever played in.
“It’s just the worst possible news after such an amazing week in California.”
On Saturday, PGA of Australia, Golf Australia and Golf NSW released a statement confirming the horrible news.
“(We) wish to thank everyone who assisted Jeff following the incident and wish him all the best with his recovery,” it read.
“We would ask people to respect the family’s privacy at this time, and we will endeavour to provide updates on his condition in due course.”
Guan, who turned pro in 2023, has been likened to Aussie superstar Cam Smith.
“In terms of Jeffrey as a player, he’s a little like Cameron Smith in that he doesn’t have a standout feature in his game, but equally he just doesn’t have a weakness,” director of teaching at The Australian Golf Club Tony Barter said.
