The Cromwell Fire Department has reported that a lightning strike on a tree affected three people during a delay due to dangerous weather on Saturday (US time) at the Travelers Championship in Cromwell, Connecticut.
In a statement released on Saturday evening, the department said that at approximately 4:26pm ET, the Cromwell Police Department began receiving phone calls about a lightning strike in the area of 6 Pierson Green. On maps, that location appears to be within the interior of the TPC River Highlands course where the $US20 million PGA Tour signature event is being played.
The statement further said: “On arrival, first responders identified a tree struck by lightning and three patients near the strike. EMS crew treated two patients who were transported to area hospitals for further evaluation, and one patient who refused treatment. All remaining Police, Fire and EMS units cleared the scene.”
