It just wouldn’t be a U.S. Open without drama. Complaints about the setup being unfair. Big names getting beat by high-school science teachers in qualifiers. Worldwide pandemics, world ranking points and Phil hitting moving balls. If you can dream it up, the U.S. Open has delivered it. This, however, is a new one.

According to multiple reports from the grounds this week, grandstand seating around Pinehurst No. 2 has been collapsing on fans this week after the construction company used screws that were too short in an effort to cut costs. No Laying Up’s Tron Carter has the scoop.

Buckle up, folks (literally). It’s not even Wednesday yet and we already have fans falling out of their chairs and last year’s U.S. Open champ calling the greens “borderline.” Apparently, the situation got so slapstick, event organizers had to close the entire grandstand near the second hole for repairs. That’s has to be a U.S. Open first.
