Two of the world’s greatest basketball superpowers took the floor on Monday in a tune-up contest ahead of this year’s Summer Olympics.
With Olympic competition a little more than a week away, the United States and Australia jostled back and forth in Abu Dhabi — the capital city of the United Arab Emirates — seeking both glory and match fitness as they attempted to mount a challenge for the gold in Paris.
In the end, it was the Americans who walked out worthy victors, capitalizing on strong performances from Anthony Davis (17 points, 14 rebounds), Devin Booker (16 points, three rebounds, two assists) and Anthony Edwards (14 points, four rebounds, two assists, two steals) as well as hot team shooting from beyond the arc.
The Steve Kerr-led outfit improved its pre-Olympic record to 2-0 with the win. The frontcourt is a big reason why, with the likes of Davis and Bam Adebayo wreaking havoc on both ends of the floor.
The Boomers, meanwhile, were led by Rockets big Jock Lansdale, who dropped 20 points, seven rebounds and six assists to spearhead Australia’s late comeback effort. Bulls guard Josh Giddey added 17 points, eight rebounds and seven assists in 27 minutes for the Boomers.
Here’s a complete look at the box score from Monday’s clash of basketball titans.
