Football Australia is deeply saddened to hear the passing of Ian Knop AM, former Chair of Soccer Australia during the early 2000s.
Knop’s chairmanship came during an important time for the sport, as Australian football navigated significant changes. His contributions and commitment to the game will be remembered and appreciated by those who knew him and worked with him.
Beyond football, Knop was a highly respected figure in Australian business and sport, holding leadership roles across various sectors, where his strategic acumen and commitment to growth were consistently evident. His work earned him recognition as a Member of the Order of Australia (AM), for service to business, particularly to industry development in Tasmania, and to the community through a range of executive roles with energy, finance, sporting and Indigenous support organisations, reflecting his broad contributions to Australian society.
Anter Isaac, Chairman of Football Australia, expressed his condolences: “Ian’s time as Chair of Soccer Australia and Capital Football came at a significant moment for the sport.
