Given its 200-year history, cricket is not only a popular sport in India but also in Australia. Numerous ICC Cricket World Cups and international competitions have been won by the Australian national cricket team, also referred to as the “Kangaroos.” But according to a new vox-pop video making the rounds online, Australians are unable to identify Travis Head and Pat Cummins.
An individual performing a vox pop introduces the viral video. “Have you heard of Pat Cummins and Travis Head?” he queries. He travels about asking people about the famous cricket players, but nobody responds. An Indian-origin man states near the end of the film that Virat Kohli, not Pat Cummins, is the player he has heard of.
Sharing the video, an X handle @rathor7_ wrote, “What a shame for ICC, cricket is dying in Australia.”
When the viral video was shared on August 10, it had over 4,80,000 views and many cricket fans visited the comment area. One person responded to it by writing, “India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, and Afghanistan love cricket.” “People outside of India don’t care about cricket,” said a different user.
“Cricket is only loved in Indian subcontinent. We love to play a game that’s played hardly by 10 countries. Yes, now we have been able add 10 more countries after urging over several years. So that we can organise a world cup and validate ourselves. Cricket is only a mid game tbh,” a third user said.
One of the important members of the Australian cricket team is Pat Cummins. In addition to leading Sunrisers Hyderabad in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he captains both Test and ODI teams. In addition to being nominated for the 2019 ICC Men’s Test Cricketer of the Year award, Cummins received the Allan Border Medal for being the best-performing Australian cricket player of 2018–19.
Contrarily, Travis Head was an important member of the Australian squad that won the Player of the Match award in both the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup and the 2023 ICC World Test Championship finals.
