WACA Ground Improvement Project Reaches Major Milestone | Western Australian Cricket Association

The WACA Ground Improvement Project has reached a significant milestone, with structural completion of the outdoor 50m pool which will form a central showpiece of the new Aquatic Centre.

Contractor ADCO is forging ahead with construction across the site, including the steel structure of the nation-leading, 10-lane Indoor Centre which will become home to WA Cricket’s High Performance & Elite Teams.

With the Project on track for practical completion next September, the multi-level public pavilion is also taking shape, set to house the new museum, cafe, health club, Members facilities and WA Cricket administration.

The Aquatic Centre is reaching new heights, with the stairs for the new waterslides already wrapping around one of the Ground’s iconic light towers. The resort-style community facility will also include an indoor learn-to-swim pool and splashpad accessible to children and young people of all abilities.

“WA Cricket is proud and excited to mark the structural completion of the outdoor pool as a significant milestone in the WACA Ground Improvement Project,” WA Cricket Interim CEO Justin Michael said.

“From our players, to staff and our Members, we’ve all been watching the site with keen interest and it’s a real thrill to see major elements of the Project appearing.

“We’re excited to see this iconic Ground continue to thrive and serve as a hub for cricket and community activities, ensuring its place in Western Australia’s sporting history for generations to come.”

Construction of the 50m outdoor pool is a key milestone for ADCO, with the structure comprising over 1900m³ of concrete, almost two-kilometres of PVC pipework and more than 61-thousand tiles.

The pool will also become the coolest spot at the WACA Ground, boasting an impressive view of the world-famous pitch.

“As a company with deep roots in Western Australia, ADCO is immensely proud to be delivering the WACA Ground Improvement Project,” ADCO Managing Director Neil Harding said.

“This iconic development is a testament to the strong partnership we share with WA Cricket and our commitment to creating world-class facilities for the Perth community.

“The WACA Ground is more than just a venue; it’s a central part of Western Australia’s sporting heritage. This project isn’t just about building a facility; it’s about creating a lasting legacy for WA Cricket, the athletes, and the broader community.

“With over 12,500m² of active site area and work progressing across all key buildings, we are well on track for what will be an exciting few months ahead. We look forward to continuing our close collaboration with WA Cricket and our project partners to ensure this redevelopment meets the highest standards and serves as a source of pride for the entire state.”

As the most significant evolution in the Ground’s 131-year history, the $168.9 million Project will transform the ground into a 10,000-seat world-class community and sporting venue supporting elite and community cricket and providing year-round facilities for the broader community.

The Project is facilitated by WA Cricket and the WA Cricket Foundation, and Cricket Australia, along with local, state, and federal governments as part of the 10-year, $1.66 billion Perth City Deal.
