Not much is known for certain in pro golf these days. Will the PGA Tour and LIV ever hammer out an actual agreement? Will Scottie Scheffler hold off Xander Schauffele for Player of the Year? Will Xander Schauffele’s dad ever let his son hold the claret jug again?
But at least one thing is for sure. The U.S. will face Europe at the Ryder Cup next year. And there will be a raucous crowd at Bethpage Black when it happens.

But on Monday there was a rowdy American at St. Andrews as Rory McIlroy played the Old Course ahead of this week’s Olympic golf tournament. And after hearing that “NEW YORK LOVES YOU,” the four-time major champ couldn’t help but to yell back with a nice little jab about next year’s Ryder Cup.
“You’re not going to love us next year!” Rory responded. Damn, that’s cold, Rory. Have a look and listen for yourself:
That’s a man who seems pretty darn confident about his team’s chances. And why not? The Europeans are coming off their latest victory in the biennial competition after winning in Italy last fall. But no road team has since 2012 when Europe—with Rory racing to the first tee on Sunday—won at Medinah.
Anyway, we’ve got a lot of golf—and a lot to figure out—before Bethpage next fall. In the meantime, be careful what you yell at Rory McIlroy.
