Western Australian Duo Selected for Blind Ashes Series | Western Australian Cricket Association

Two of Western Australian’s Blind and Vision Impaired cricketers have been selected to represent Australia in the Blind Ashes series, which will take place in Queensland from 17-26 November 2024.

Ryan Honschooten and Michael Berg have been rewarded for their incredible efforts with the bat and ball over the last 12 months, with a chance to represent their country on a world stage.

The series will be the first in eight years with Australia last taking on England in a Blind Ashes Series in 2016, in which England came out on top, with the 2020 series being missed due to Covid-19.

Both men represented WA in the National Cricket Inclusion Championships at the beginning of 2024, showcasing their individual talents.

Honschooten walked away as the leading run scorer for WA in the Blind and Low Vision B1 category and Berg took home the most wickets in the Blind and Low Vision B3 category.

Proving that blind and vision impaired cricket is continuing to go from strength-to-strength on the international stage, this upcoming series will mark the 20th anniversary of the Blind Ashes which was first played in England in 2004.

Ther series will comprise of three ODIs and five T20Is at several different venues around the Gold Coast.

The WA Cricket Foundation, with the generous support of our donors, actively supports Blind and Vision Impaired cricketers through a range of programs as well as the WA Cricket’s Inclusion Academy which is the highest level of state representation available to players with a disability.
