Australia international Mitchell Starc, who was part of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 champions, Kolkata Knight Riders side, revealed on a podcast about his chat with youngster Angkrish Raghuvanshi during the IPL Final ceremony.
Starc was bought by Shahrukh Khan co-owned franchise KKR for a whopping prize amounting to Rs 24.50 Cr, at the auction ahead of IPL 2024. As a result, he became the most expensive player ever in the history of the IPL.
Even though Starc had a relatively slow start to proceedings in the season, he proved his worth by stepping up for the team in the latter stages of the tournament, particularly in the knockout phase.
He picked up 2/14 in his 3 overs in the IPL Final against Sunrisers Hyderabad and was adjudged the Player of the Match as well. In the first year of his addition to the franchise, KKR won the trophy, which was their first in almost 10 years.
The 19-year-old youngster, Raghuvanshi, who was part India’s U19 World Cup-winning team in 2022, was picked up by KKR at the IPL auction for a base price of 20 lakhs.
He made some important contributions to the team during the season, when he was given the opportunity. Notably, his best performance was during the match against Delhi Capitals, where he slammed a 27-ball 54, as his team went on to win the encounter by 106 runs.
During a chat on a podcast named “Willow Talk”, fast bowler Mitchell Starc revealed his hilarious interaction with Angkrish, during the IPL Final ceremony, when the youngster pointed out how the Australian received more money in auction than what the entire team received for winning the IPL 2024.

“The IPL Final presentation didn’t start until midnight & basically killed the vibe. Then the cheques for the winning team came over, it had INR 20 crore price. Young Angy [Angkrish Raghuvanshi], as the winner cheques came along, the team gets Rs 20 crores for winning the Final and he was like – Huh! it’s not even what you got paid,” Starc laughed as he recalled the incident on the Willow Talk podcast.
Starc found the youngster’s sarcasm about the prize money to be hilarious as he added: “He’s just a 19-year-old!”
The KKR franchise was awarded with the prize money of Rs 20 crores for winning the tournament, which was Rs 4.5 crore less than Starc’s auction prize amount of Rs 24.5 crores.
