Even though it’s only November 2024, the AFL fixture release for the 2025 season is happening this week.
Already we have seen two special rounds of the fixture announced – Opening Round and Gather Round – with the rest of the schedule coming imminently.
The Sporting News reveals when the AFL fixture is likely to be announced.

When will the AFL fixture 2025 be released?
During the release of the Opening Round 2025 matches on November 12, the AFL stated the full fixture would be released later that week.
As of yet, the day and time of the fixture release are yet to be made public.
But the 2024 fixture release occurred the same week last year but on a Thursday at 3:30pm (AEDT) – with it likely the AFL planning for a similar time.
When does the 2025 AFL season start?
The 2025 AFL season will begin on Thursday, March 6 with a blockbuster between premiers Brisbane and Geelong at the Gabba.
This match will be the first of four in the ‘Opening Round’, which sees the AFL teams in the eastern seaboard states host the first games of the season.
Details of Round 1 are yet to be released but it’s likely that the traditional ‘season opener’ between Carlton and Richmond will be on Thursday, March 13 at the MCG.
