Nathan Bracken represented Australia from 2001 to 2009 in international cricket and was also a part of their ODI World Cup triumphs in 2003 and 2007.

The left-handed speedster, who was a menace with a ball in hand, has since his retirement left the cricketing world to pursue a career in the corporate sector.

When and why did Nathan Bracken retire?

Following persistent issues with the knee, Bracken announced his retirement from all forms of cricket in January 2011. In his 8-year international career, he represented the Aussies in 116 ODIs, 19 T20Is and 5 Tests, accumulating 205 wickets across formats.

Bracken could move the ball both ways but after a serious knee injury, he just couldn’t find his best rhythm that made him world number one ODI pacer in 2008.

After an accomplished career, the then 34-year-old decided to hang his boots in 2011. As per reports, the pacer was offered a mouth-watering INR 1.3 crore contract from IPL franchise RCB but the player rejected citing fitness issues.

How has Nathan Bracken performed in international cricket?

The left-arm quick made his international debut in a win against West Indies in the first ODI of the series in 2001 at the MCG where he dismissed Sherwin Campbell.

Graeme Swann turned out to be his last-ever dismissal in the international circuit at Nottingham in the win against England in the 6th ODI of the series.

Where is Nathan Bracken now?

Post his retirement, among his multiple endeavours, Bracken fought the federal elections from 2013-2017, however, failing in his attempts as an independent candidate.

After completing his bachelor’s in communications from Charles Sturt University, he currently works at a civil engineering firm named Fulton Hogan in New South Wales while also working as a bowling coach at the Shaun Brown Cricket Coaching on a part-time basis.
