Four Australians maintained their status on the PGA Tour for 2025, although none are certain to make it all the way through the playoffs to the season-ending Tour Championship in Atlanta.

The PGA Tour regular season concluded on Monday morning, AEST – well, almost concluded – in a bizarre and awkward twist at the Wyndham Championship in Greensboro, North Carolina. England’s Aaron Rai skated through a disaster zone to secure his first PGA Tour win after a spectacular stumble by then leader, Max Greyserman. New Jersey’s Greyserman, in a stretch of four holes on the back nine, was leading the Wyndham by four shots after an eagle at the par-4 13th. At the 14th, he racked up a baffling, quadruple-bogey 8 that began with a ball out-of-bounds off the tee. He bounced back at the next hole with a birdie at the par-5 15th but then four-putted the par-3 16th for a double-bogey by three-putting from three feet.

Moments later, in an unusual twist, Matt Kuchar, who at 11-under-par and tied for 12th place was well outside contention and guaranteed not to make the PGA Tour’s playoffs, decided not to finish his final hole due to darkness. Confusion mounted by the fact he had hit his tee shot on the 18th hole moments earlier, close to where the leaders were hitting their approach shots from. However, ESPN reported that Kuchar was frustrated nobody told him about the competitors in the fairway on 18 and he had hit his drive because he couldn’t see them. Kuchar opted not to play his approach on No.18 and instead will return on Monday morning, US time (tonight, AEST), to complete the second half of his final hole as the only player still to finish the tournament.

While most results at the Wyndham were guaranteed, such as Rai’s win and Greyserman’s outright second place, the tournament is not officially over until Kuchar completes his round. The chaotic circumstances were not going to affect the top 70 who make it to the playoffs, and thus the status of the Australians who were inside and outside that number.

The top 70 on the FedEx Cup standings through the Wyndham Championship advance to the playoffs and, if they weren’t already exempt, keep their tour cards for next season. The FedEx Cup playoffs are a three-tournament, post-season series including the St Jude event in Memphis, the BMW Championship and the Tour Championship.

Former world No.1 Jason Day, as well as recent Rocket Mortgage winner Cam Davis, Adam Scott and Min Woo Lee, kept their cards for 2025. Lee was the only one among the quartet to have played the Wyndham. They will now use the first event of the playoffs to try to play their way into the top 50 who progress to the BMW. The top 30 after the BMW advance to the finale at East Lake Golf Club in Atlanta.

Two Australians, Harrison Endycott and Aaron Baddeley, as well as Kiwi Ryan Fox, did not make the top 70.

Golfers who failed to make the top 70 are eligible for the Fall (autumn) Series of events after the Tour Championship. FedEx Cup points accumulated in the 2024 season carry over into the northern autumn and golfers must be within the top 125 after the Fall Series to retain full member status on the PGA Tour for 2025.

Below are the season results for Australians who kept their cards. We included their number of cuts made from events played, top 10s and top 25s, as well as a list of those who missed out on the top 70.
